A-level Photography process

'Personal space' photography project, sketchbook process, started in 2019 and finished by 2020

Emma Regolini, one of the artists which inspired me the most through this project and ended up a big part of the work I did by the final piece. Her way of taking photographs and using the contour of other peoples faces to enhance and bring attention to the portraits really influenced the creativity I pursued in my own work.

The photos of this photo shoot were the first attempt at creating my own version of photos in her style and using her techniques. Although moving forward I disliked the way the lighting of the photos didn't give a chance of the white lines to show up vividly and expose the models' face.

In the course of this project I also did a few experiments with physical manipulation, followed by research of other artists. Although these in particular didn't fit in within what I was going for as they were starting to turn into more of an exploration of fashion photography than personal space.

Going back to the artist Regolini I made more photo shoots, trying out different ways of editing and presenting my photographs. Here I realised I liked the way the black and white photo made the while lines show up more clearly, however I preferred the simple background from the original photo than the physically manipulated ones.

In between shoots I also did a workshop on the topic 'personal space' in a vague manner, which consisted of taking photographs of someone's actual personal space which I chose to be a home of a friend of mine. I was finally able to work with colour film and not just the digital that I was so used to. However I didn't find the photos fitting within the theme I was pursuing this project, so I stuck with my portraits in the end even if I did add this short experimentation as part of the process.

'Around town' photography project, sketchbook process, 2020

Within this project I explored the art of presenting the town I lived in at the time to the audience, through a series of photographs, from the start of the journey I would take, all until the very end.

Planning for the final piece and choosing the best photos throughout the photo shoots I had done, which I thought were the very best quality and which I knew would go together in the best visual way possible:

For almost half of the photos I had chosen to be in the final album I would make, I had to re-edit the photos in order for them to go together:
