Lino printing

Lino printing - Spring 2021

In the midst of my gap year I explored print making with a few materials such as linoleum and soft-cut base. All the pieces I came up with were part of a theme surrounding 'hallucinations'. A surreal aspect which I explored due to my experiences with the first national lock-down where due to having to stay at home for an extended period, I used to stay up quite late during the nights, which quickly shifted my usual sleeping pattern and therefore made my dreams to become quite unusual. It was quite a mentally exhausting period all throughout the year; and spending so much time indoors had its highs and lows in terms of experiencing loneliness one way or another (definitely not just for me but others all over the world too).

I thoroughly enjoyed this different way of creating art that I hadn't done in such depth before. A very eye opening scheme of art works which I might pursue more in personal projects.

Lino printing - Winter 2021

Fast forwards to when I began university, I joined a lino printing workshop for the first time in the letterpress room at my university. I absolutely fell in love with this process of letterpress and lino and have been using their facilities and processes in my work and projects any chance I can.

During this workshop I was taught how to make a double exposure text and experiment with different paper weight and colours to achieve different results.

'Control the narrative' project - 2023

I revisited lino printing again in the first semester of my third year at university. I was choose from a list of words that would help me navigate an area of which I would use to create atmosphere and communicate a specific theme .

In this project I chose to focus on Nature and Harmony within the environment where the Fibonacci theory shows up in nature, creating harmony within us and our environment.

As a part of this, I chose to focus on lino printing shapes and patters in everyday human body parts such as our ear structure as well as sea shells in nature.
